Sunset Trip Komodo

Step into the heart of Komodo National Park through Loh Liang Resort — the oldest and most iconic entrance on Komodo Island. Spanning an impressive 8,512.7 hectares, this destination offers a wild, untamed experience unlike anywhere else in the park. With sweeping savanna grasslands, lush monsoon forests, and rich biodiversity, Loh Liang is not just a gateway — it’s a journey into the world of ancient giants and vibrant birdsong.

Where Dragons Roam

The main highlight of Loh Liang is, of course, the legendary komodo dragon (Varanus komodoensis). According to park data, about 49 individual dragons call the Loh Liang valleys home — from curious hatchlings to imposing adults. These apex predators roam freely through the area, and with luck and the guidance of expert rangers, tourists can observe them safely in their natural habitat.

The name “Loh Liang” comes from local folklore: “Loh” means lake and “Liang” means home, symbolizing a mystical place where dragons once nested by the water’s edge.

A Symphony of the Wild

Wake up to the calls of the yellow-crested cockatoo (Cacatua sulphurea occidentalis), an endangered parrot species that fills the skies with their morning chorus. These charismatic birds are just one of many species thriving here. Other wildlife includes:

  • Timor deer (Rusa timorensis)

  • Wild boars (Sus scrofa)

  • Orange-footed scrub fowl (Megapodius reinwardt)

  • Black-naped oriole (Oriolus chinensis)

  • A variety of butterflies, insects, and wild orchids such as Vanda limbata and Dendrobium sp.

Loh Liang’s unique tropical climate and fertile environment make it one of the few places in Komodo National Park where these ecosystems flourish together.
